Fast dictionary lookups & Scrabble-style scoring

Use Word Finder when you need more control than a basic anagram search. Enter available letters, choose a word length, and add optional rules for what a word must start with, end with, or contain. You can also search by pattern when some letters are already fixed on a board or in a crossword grid. Combining these conditions creates a smaller, more useful list of candidates for word games, daily puzzles, and vocabulary practice. Leave the available-letter field empty when you want to search by pattern alone.

Find words from a rack of letters

Enter the letters available to you and choose whether you want any length or an exact number of characters. The finder respects duplicate counts: input A R E T can produce RATE, TARE, and TEAR, but it cannot produce a word that needs two R tiles. When your rack contains a blank, use a wildcard for that tile and review the extra matches it creates. Sorting by length can surface longer plays first, while alphabetical order is useful when checking a spelling or comparing similar answers.

This search is helpful in Scrabble, Words With Friends, Bananagrams, and other tile games, but the list is only a starting point. Your board may require a particular hook, a cross-word, or a placement over a premium square. Check every candidate against the board and the official dictionary for the game you are playing. Scores and accepted words can differ across games, editions, and regional word lists.

  • Letters A R E T: look for RATE, TARE, TEAR, and other valid combinations that use no extra tiles.
  • Starts with TR: examples include TREE, TRAIN, TRACE, and TRAVEL, depending on the selected length.
  • Ends with ING: narrow longer results to words with a useful suffix such as PLAYING or SPRING.

Search by prefix, suffix, and included pattern

A prefix is a sequence that must appear at the beginning of the answer; a suffix must appear at the end. Use these fields when a board tile constrains how your word can connect, or when a clue suggests a familiar ending. The contains field checks for a sequence anywhere inside the word. For example, requiring TION can find entries such as ACTION, MOTION, PORTION, and STATION when the requested length and dictionary match.

Combine pattern rules with available letters when you know both the rack and the board connection. If your word must begin with TR and your rack supplies the remaining letters, set the prefix and enter only the tiles you can use. If you are unsure about a condition, remove it and compare the broader result list. A single mistaken restriction can hide every valid answer, so build a search from confirmed facts and add optional filters one at a time.

Use Word Finder for Wordle and crosswords

For standard Wordle, choose a five-letter length and enter the letters that are confirmed in their positions. Use excluded letters for feedback that rules out a tile, while remembering that duplicate letters can complicate gray clues. A candidate list can help you plan a guess that tests new letters, but it does not provide the puzzle's hidden answer or determine which guess is strategically best. Longer Wordle-style games may use other word lengths, so set the length to match the version you are playing.

For crosswords, the grid itself supplies a pattern. Enter the known crossing letters in their correct slots, select the answer length, and use available letters only when the clue or puzzle provides them. Word Finder can check spelling possibilities, but it cannot interpret the clue's wordplay or decide which definition fits. Treat results as options to evaluate against the clue and its crossings.

Choose the right related word tool

Use the dedicated five-letter page when you are solving a five-letter pattern and want fixed-position controls. Choose the six-, seven-, or eight-letter unscrambler when your target answer has an exact length and you are rearranging a known set of tiles. The general Word Finder is the flexible option for starts-with, ends-with, contains, and length rules across a wider range of words. A separate anagram solver is useful when the central task is comparing exact or partial rearrangements of a phrase.

If a search gives no matches, make sure your available letters do not include spaces or punctuation, check each repeated tile, and verify that the prefix and suffix do not overlap beyond the chosen word length. Then remove one optional rule at a time. This makes it clear whether a result is being excluded by the rack, the pattern, the length, or the scope of the dictionary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I find words from letters and a pattern together?

Yes. Enter your available tiles, set a length, and add known starting, ending, or contained letter sequences.

Does Word Finder work for Scrabble and Words With Friends?

It can suggest words from your rack and board constraints. Confirm legal plays in the official dictionary and rules for your game.

Can I search without entering available letters?

Yes. Leave the letter pool empty and search using length, prefix, suffix, or contained-pattern filters.

Why is my expected answer missing?

Check the letter counts, length, and every active filter. The answer may also be outside this dictionary's coverage.
