Fast dictionary lookups & Scrabble-style scoring

An anagram solver checks whether a set of letters can be rearranged to form one or more dictionary words. Enter a word, phrase, or tile rack and choose whether you want exact anagrams that use every letter or shorter sub-anagrams that use part of the pool. Cluevra accounts for repeated letters, supports blank wildcards, and sorts results to make comparison easier. It is useful for word games, jumbles, crossword exploration, and learning how different letter combinations can create new words.

How to solve an anagram

Type the letters you want to rearrange. The order does not matter, and spaces or punctuation can separate a phrase without changing its letter pool. Select exact mode when the answer must use every supplied letter, or choose a length range to include partial anagrams. The solver compares the letter frequency of each candidate with your input, so a word that needs an extra vowel will not appear unless the input contains that vowel or a wildcard.

For example, the letters A R E T can form RATE, TARE, and TEAR as exact four-letter anagrams. With shorter results enabled, the same pool may also produce ARE, ART, EAR, EAT, RAT, TAR, and TEA, depending on the dictionary. Compare each candidate with the puzzle's definition or clue; the anagram engine finds arrangements but does not decide which meaning fits.

  • A E R T: look for RATE, TARE, and TEAR as exact rearrangements.
  • S T O N E: compare STONE, NOTES, ONSET, and other words that use all five letters.
  • L I S T E N: explore exact anagrams such as SILENT, ENLIST, and TINSEL.

Exact anagrams and sub-anagrams

An exact anagram uses every supplied letter the same number of times. This is useful when a jumble specifies a complete answer or when rearranging a phrase into another phrase. A sub-anagram uses only some of the available letters, which is useful in Scrabble-like games where you can play a shorter word from a larger rack. Be clear about which mode you need: a list of shorter matches can be distracting when a clue demands one exact rearrangement.

Repeated letters deserve special attention. The word LETTERS includes two Ts and two Es; a candidate that uses three Ts cannot be made from that pool. Cluevra checks these counts rather than just asking whether every candidate letter appears somewhere in the input. A wildcard can supply one missing tile, but it does not allow an ordinary tile to be reused freely.

Anagrams for games and learning

For Scrabble and Words With Friends, sub-anagrams help you inspect plays from your rack. A long exact anagram is not always the best move: check the board, premium squares, cross-words, and the official accepted-word list. The solver provides spelling candidates and optional score ordering, but it cannot see your current board or account for all game-specific scoring. In competitive settings, follow the rules about outside tools and assistance.

For daily jumbles and classroom exercises, use the answer clue to choose among plausible results. Students can compare the letter patterns shared by anagrams and notice how prefixes, endings, and vowel placement change the form of a word. Writers may use partial anagrams to explore vocabulary, but should still check definitions and context before using an unfamiliar result in prose.

When to use a different word finder

If you know where some letters belong, a pattern-based finder is more direct than an anagram search. Word Finder supports starting letters, ending letters, contained sequences, and lengths. Words With Letters combines a rack with those constraints. The dedicated five-letter finder is suited to five-slot puzzles, while the six-, seven-, and eight-letter unscramblers narrow the search to an exact word size. Choose the page that best matches the information you already know.

If no exact anagram appears, check for a missing or duplicated letter, try a wildcard for a genuinely unknown tile, and make sure your selected mode matches the clue. Different dictionaries include different inflections, regional forms, and specialist terms. Confirm any disputed answer with the source or game list that governs your puzzle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an exact anagram?

An exact anagram rearranges every supplied letter exactly once, preserving repeated-letter counts.

Can I find shorter words from the same letters?

Yes. Select sub-anagram or a word-length range to see valid words made from part of your letter pool.

Can the solver rearrange a phrase?

Yes. Enter the letters from the phrase; spaces and punctuation do not affect the letter matching.

Why is my answer missing?

Check repeated letters, selected mode, and wildcard use. The word may also be outside the dictionary's coverage.
